ANALYSIS:
The film started off with two well known comedic actors playing more serious roles. This kept our subject intrigued with the unfolding plot. A slow introduction established Becky’s backstory which centered around a predictable family drama. Our subject maintained her resting heart rate for the first twenty three minutes of the film. At 30:00, a tense invasion affected her pulse escalating her heart rate to 84bpm. Halfway through the film, suspenseful scenes continued to produce impressive heart rate numbers but it was the violence just around the corner that would have her pulse racing.
Forty two minutes into the film, a shocking and brutal scene of extreme gore shook our subject to her core. ‘Eye’ would say it was at this point she began cursing us for making her watch the blood bath. We recorded an 89bpm spike as she was blindsided by the grotesque effect. From that point on, her imagination worked overtime attempting to figure out the next trap and what gore she would have to endure. The grisly kills piled up and continued to produce respectably high heart rate numbers through the conclusion of the film.
CONCLUSION:
Becky (2020) is disguised as a timid teen thriller but quickly deteriorates into a gruesome revenge horror film Share on X The use of practical effects caused our subject to squirm, cringe and look away from death scenes that didn’t seem to end. Think Final Destination type shocks that make the bile rise in the back of your throat. The storyline was mediocre but the creation of such a furious character mixed with over-the-top kills made for an exhilarating ride. We believe the term ‘Becky Rage’ should be coined for a new level of anger. Several shocking moments make this film worth watching and burning off more calories than a s’more is another reason to fuel this fire.
