Come Play (2020) Live Heart Rate Breakdown

Come Play (2020) is an American horror based on the short film released in 2017. Our subject is a mother of three with a fear of crowds. She wore a heart monitor while viewing this story about an imaginary friend. She had no information regarding the plot and had never seen the short film.

Where to Watch:

SYNOPSIS:

A monster named Larry manifests itself through smartphones and mobile devices.

Test Subject: Jen

Age: 36

Gender:  Female

Fears: Agoraphobia (Fear of Crowds)

Resting HR: 60-65bpm

Walking HR: 80-85bpm

ANALYSIS:

Our subject sat in a dark room and it wasn’t long before her heart began pounding. An early spike to 82bpm kicked off the film. Many of the scare tactics may seem familiar to horror fans, but to the untrained eye they supplied plenty of jumps and jolts. After the initial scares, a meandering story and the introduction of “haunted” electronics settled her frayed nerves. But this only lasted a moment as another creepy scene built anticipation and elevated our subject’s numbers once again.

We observed extremely high heart rates which quickly dipped back to resting quite often. The saving grace of the film was the filmmakers decision to prolong the creature reveal. We recorded much higher rates the longer our subject was forced to use her imagination. But even after the reveal, gripping moments continued to provide an impressive heart racing conclusion.

CONCLUSION:

Come Play (2020) is a series of suspenseful scenes strung together by a weak plot. Our subject never fully invested herself in the characters or the storyline but that didn’t prevent frightening moments. This spooky fun film would excite teenagers at a sleepover but may fail to terrify hardcore horror fans. If the movie had issues, our cowering subject was too scared to care.
