Evil Eye (2020) Live Heart Rate Breakdown

Evil Eye (2020) is an American horror film and the final movie in our ‘Welcome to the Blumhouse’ experiment. The reviews on IMDB fall at opposite ends of the scary spectrum, with the majority of them ranking either one star or ten stars. This new release could use a terrifyingly accurate FearScale to see if it deserves the word Evil in the title.

Where to Watch:

SYNOPSIS:

“A seemingly perfect romance turns into a nightmare when a mother becomes convinced her daughter’s new boyfriend has a dark connection to her own past.”

Test Subject: Leah

Age: 35

Gender:  Female

Fears: Eyeball Gore

Resting HR: 60-65bpm

Walking HR: 80-85bpm

ANALYSIS:

Our subject went into this film with little to no expectations. After being subjected to several other tame thrillers mis-labeled as horror, she found it hard to believe that Evil Eye would be any different. And she may have been right. The film began with a mildly interesting storyline but soon boredom set in as the plot began to drag. Only two moments in the film were able to lift her heart rate out of her resting average of 60-65bpm. The finale, which delivered her peak 74bpm, involved a mildly suspenseful knife fight that apparently needed an hour and twenty minute build-up.

CONCLUSION:

Evil Eye (2020) is a slow moving ‘horror’ with the feeling of an independent production. Our subject endured over acting and forced dialogue which negatively affected her viewing experience and ultimately our monitoring results. Each of these filmmaking flaws prevented suspense and tension from building.  In one of our lowest recorded horror films to date, I spy a flatline with my evil eye.
