ANALYSIS:
The film opened with beautiful scenic shots that led our subject into a moderately suspenseful moment. Her pulse quickened to 72bpm before dropping back to her resting rate. It would stay that way for about twenty minutes as the movie dove into a simple storyline and long character building. Our subject flatlined and began rooting for one of the more annoying characters to get eaten. Luckily, a gruesome underwater scare escalated her heart rate to 82bpm which would be her highest peak of the movie. The tense moments came not from shark attacks but from the threat of an attack anytime a character fell in the water. Which seemed to happen quite often. The third act drifted along at an excruciatingly slow pace as it delivered poor decisions, awkward dialogue, and little action to keep our subject entertained.
CONCLUSION:
Great White is a slow moving shark movie that doggie paddles its way to an underwhelming finale. Share on X A few suspenseful scenes were not enough to keep our subject invested in the story. Questionable plot choices and poor character development also contributed to the low results. True terror never showed its teeth and our subject’s heart rate sunk to the bottom of our FearScale.
