Love Me Not (2019 Short Film)

To show our love for the independent horror community we decided to subject one of our team members to the recent short horror film Love Me Not (2019). Released by Horror House Media and directed by Michael Coulombe, Love Me Not tells a story of revenge in the modern age. Would ten minutes be long enough to raise our subject’s pulse to heart racing levels? For this film, we chose a male test subject and it turned out to be a terrifyingly great choice.

What is FearScale? We’ve all heard the expression ‘Scared to Death’ or how something ‘Made My Heart Skip a Beat’, but what does that actually look like?  Studies have shown that even when subjected to stimuli that can not present a true threat of danger, our bodies will still produce a physiological response. By analyzing real-time results we are able to give you the most accurate reviews for anything that makes your heart race.

Synopsis:

In a dating scene where a swipe of a finger determines someone’s worthiness of love, a few hearts are bound to be broken.

Test Subject: Jon

Age : 31

Gender: Male

Fears: Heights

Resting HR: 60-65 bpm

Walking HR: 80-85 bpm

ANALYSIS:

It didn’t take long for our subject’s levels to climb out of his resting numbers. We recorded a 69bpm spike at 1:42. The uncertainty of the main character’s intention had him on the edge of his seat, even during a brief lull in the scale. As the momentum of the scene intensified, our subject’s physiological responses were heightened as well. We witnessed a steady climb from the midpoint which led to a powerful conclusion, ultimately causing his peak 77bpm.

CONCLUSION:

Like watching a demented version of The Bachelor, Vanessa Esperanza, who played Jenny, preyed on our victim with her psychotic beauty. Accompanied by a haunting soundtrack, Love Me Not (2019) raised our subject’s heart rate from his resting 63bpm to his peak 77bpm in under ten minutes. That’s a 22.2 percent increase which allowed his body to burn fourteen calories. We also believe our male subject had an underlying fear of unstable women making this monitoring more fun.
