Mandy (2018) TRT 2:01

Mandy (2018) wasn’t on our radar until several fans from the horror community reached out to us to see if we had monitored the film. Well when the community beckons, we answer. Our subject went in having no idea the plot of the film and frankly we didn’t either. What happened next was a strange, psychedelic journey down the rabbit hole with our heart monitor in hand.

Test Subject: Leah

Age : 35

Gender: Female

Fears: Needles

Resting HR: 65 bpm

Walking HR: 75-80 bpm

ANALYSIS:

The long uncomfortable pacing of several early scenes caused a few spikes to occur. They were well deserved and noted as some of the strangest moments we have witnessed in a movie to date. Our subject’s peak heart-rate of 87bpm came (37:00) as a seizure inducing scene hit us with the inciting incident of the film. Yet even with the film taking an hour to establish its main relationship, our subject never truly empathized with the characters. This, however, did not stop her from becoming fully engrossed in the action as the plot finally revealed itself. What started as one of the slower burns we have monitored quickly became an angry, intensely artistic revenge flick.

Peak Heart-Rate

CONCLUSION:

Labeled as a horror/thriller, Mandy (2018) didn’t raise the heart-rate to scary high levels. But what it lacked in fear it redeemed in pure intense fun. With a runtime of over two hours and maintaining an average heart-rate of 73bpm, our subject was still able to burn a significant amount of calories (228). With only 12 Calories per serving there’s no need to worry about the amount of magic mushrooms you ingest while watching this psychedelic joyride. What a strange trip it’s been!
