No One Gets Out Alive (2021) Live Heart Rate Breakdown

No One Gets Out Alive (2021) is a British horror film based on the 2014 novel of the same name. Reviews ranging from ‘hidden gem’ to ‘below average’ had us curious why this film has viewers so drastically divided. For this experiment, we recruited Amy, a subject who suffers from a ghastly fear of ghosts. She never read the book nor had she seen the trailer.  A perfect candidate to watch this new Netflix movie while we recorded her heart rate and oxygen levels.

ANALYSIS:

A slow building suspenseful scene kicked off the film and immediately had our subject’s heart racing to 76bpm from a resting 63bpm. But soon, she was lulled into a state of boredom as the main character wandered the town for the next thirty minutes. Atmospheric jump scares, lighting tricks and strange noises provided minor heart fluctuations. And at 40:00, we recorded an impressive peak of 86bpm as her fear of ghosts had our subject grasping for a pillow to hide her eyes. Anticipation of more frightening scenes kept her heart rate slightly elevated but spirits would soon dissipate, leaving our subject to fend off a freakish finale. The brutal gore of the torturous third act had her gagging and diving into the couch which kept her pulse racing but left everyone scratching their heads.

No one gets out alive

CONCLUSION:

No One Gets Out Alive is a bizarre offering that slogs its way to a gruesome conclusion while baffling our subject every step of the way. Click To Tweet Several creepy scenes produced above average heart rate numbers but the strange plot failed to connect with our viewer. We’ve heard the novel provides further explanation and contains some scares this movie may have missed. Perhaps it’s time we try to FearScale a book since our subject made it out of this film alive.
