FearScale

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come picks up where the 2019 fan-favorite left off, once again inviting audiences to a deadly game of hide-and-seek where the stakes are life, death… and a few well-timed punchlines. With a bigger cast, bloodier set pieces, and more recognizable faces, this sequel raises the question: will it be the horror or the humor that gets the pulse pounding?

SYNOPSIS:

After surviving one deadly game, Grace and her sister Faith must now outrun four rival families competing for a powerful throne – winner takes all.

FearScale™ Methodology

FearScale measures how frightening a horror film truly is by monitoring real-time heart rate data from human test subjects during controlled viewing sessions. Each subject’s baseline resting heart rate is recorded prior to the film, allowing us to identify meaningful spikes caused by tension, dread, shock, or sustained unease.

Heart rate increases are tracked throughout the runtime and correlated with specific scenes to determine when fear responses occur, and how intense they are. This data-driven approach helps separate genuine physiological reactions from subjective opinions or post-viewing impressions.

Because fear is personal, FearScale does not claim universal results. Instead, each session offers an objective snapshot of how a film impacts the human body under consistent conditions, providing a unique, measurable lens on horror.

ANALYSIS:

The film opens with a surprisingly emotional callback to the original, quickly resetting the board before throwing viewers back into chaos. Within the first 15 minutes, several high-profile additions to the cast are introduced, and it doesn’t take long for the action to kick in, our subject’s heart rate climbed to 79 BPM as the first real threat enters the game.

By the 35-minute mark, the hunt is officially on. The addition of the protagonist’s sister injects some fresh tension, though the film often leans more toward laughs than screams. At times, the violence tiptoes into full-on slapstick, so over-the-top it feels less like horror and more like a comedy. But to be fair, that seems to be exactly the game plan.

Interestingly, the film’s biggest spike, 82 BPM at around 45 minutes doesn’t come from chaos, but from restraint. A slow, lingering, gory shot had our subject cringing, gripping her pillow, and almost playing hide-and-peek rather than hide-and-seek.
Tonally, the movie feels like a mashup of The Cabin in the Woods and The Running Man, a chaotic playground of rules, survival, and spectacle. The revamped wedding finale delivers energy and crowd-pleasing moments, keeping our subject engaged and even cheering, though her heart rate never quite sprints into full panic mode.

CONCLUSION:

Ready or Not 2 brings the cast, brings the carnage, and definitely brings the fun, but it doesn’t quite bring anything new enough to top the original’s killer twist. It’s less a terrifying escalation and more a bloody good time. The laughs land, the chaos entertains, but when it comes to fear, this sequel plays it a little too safe… even when no one else is.

FearScale Viewing (Daytime Couch Edition):

For the best FearScale results during a casual daytime watch:

• Sit comfortably on a couch, but keep distractions within arm’s reach
• Allow natural light, but avoid direct glare on the screen
• Use a solid sound system or TV speakers at a moderate volume, no need for full immersion
• Keep your phone nearby… just in case you need a quick “escape” during the more cringe-worthy moments
• Bonus: snacks encouraged. This one pairs well with something crunchy during the chaos
