Sick (2022) is an American slasher written by Scream scribe Kevin Williamson and is our second lake house horror film. Our subject was hooked up to a heart monitor while reliving her memories from the height of the 2020 pandemic. Find out if her fear of germs was strong enough to have her running for the antibacterial wipes.
And don’t miss the heart racing moments from our first lake house horror, Becky (2020) starring Kevin James.

ANALYSIS:
A Scream-worthy intro attacked our subject prior to the opening title. One killer scene produced an enormous spike to 86bpm within the first ten minutes. As an intriguing mystery unfolded, slow, creeping camera angles continued to build tension. Our subject reached for a pillow to grip before we got to the twenty minute mark of the film. The pace slowed at 27:00 while our subject waited patiently through relationship troubles and mildly amusing dialogue. But eventually, the film would take off and send her heart skyrocketing.
At 40:00 we recorded our first 100bpm spike of 2023. You can watch the video here. Once an extremely high heart rate is established, it takes a longer duration of slower scenes to bring it back down to resting. This wasn’t the case with Sick. Our subject’s heart rate continued to maintain extremely high levels with multiple spikes above 90bpm. The non-stop suspense continued through the third act and carried into the finale’s sick twist.
CONCLUSION:
Sick (2022) is a short, suspenseful slasher that delivers a pulse pounding punch to the heart. Share on X Even though we’ve recorded scarier moments in other films, the straight up stress of back to back chase scenes had our subject on the edge of her couch for over forty-five minutes. Sick stays on the attack with enough gore to satisfy true horror fans and produces intense levels of anxiety making it one of the top heart racing films we’ve monitored this year.
