Soundbite (2018) was released on October 31st by Horror House Media. Could an independent horror film with a total running time of under five minutes build enough tension to raise our subject’s heart rate to note-worthy levels? Read the terrifying results below.
Test Subject: Leah
Age : 35
Gender: Female
Fears: Ghosts / Clowns
Resting HR: 65 bpm
Walking HR: 75-80 bpm
ANALYSIS:
With such a short runtime our subject’s expectation of scares was immediately evident. Her heart-rate began to escalate within the first thirty seconds as the anticipation of fear took hold. We recorded a spike at the 1:40 mark as the plot unfolded and the uncomfortable nature of the film came to life. Her highest numbers however built during the disturbing climax with her peak heart-rate registering 83bpm.
CONCLUSION:
Our subject’s heart rate was able to climb from her resting 65bpm to her peak 83bpm within three minutes. These elevated numbers are comparable to an active jog. So if this scene alone was able to drastically affect her vitals we can’t wait for the full length feature!
