Independent horror short films have always a held a special place in our heart. Several years ago our team at FearScale won the viewer’s choice award for a Good Morning America contest called ‘I See Scary Movies’. You can watch it here. So when Horror House Media asked us to monitor their most recent work Stalk (2018) we enthusiastically accepted. But would five minutes be enough time to raise our subject’s heart rate to new levels of fear?
Test Subject: Leah
Age : 35
Gender: Female
Fears: Heights
Resting HR: 60-65 bpm
Walking HR: 75-80 bpm
ANALYSIS:
With the scale zoomed in we can see the precise arch of our subject’s tension. In a short amount of time her heart raises from a resting 61bpm to her peak 74bpm. That’s a twenty-one percent increase in pulse activity in just over three minutes, enough to burn eight calories.
CONCLUSION:
Being stalked by an unknown predator in the late night hours is a primal fear for many of us. The extremely dark scenes established an eerie mood but at times made it difficult to follow the action, especially during the finale. This may have prevented the numbers from climbing higher than they could have. Never the less, Stalk (2018) attacked fast and left us with a fun twist worth the build up.
