Terrified (2017) Live Heart Rate Breakdown

Since we claim to have the most terrifyingly accurate reviews we’re joining in the fear with an obvious selection to monitor. We decided to put our FearScale to the test by monitoring a Shudder exclusive aptly named, Terrified(2017). Did this film live up to its title or was our subject fearless in the face of terror?

ANALYSIS:

In one of the fastest openings we’ve monitored, Terrified (2017) raised our subject’s pulse from her resting heart rate to walking in one minute. The sense of unease produced early on prevented her numbers from ever dipping back to her resting average. Disturbing images, even those revealed during the daytime, crawled under our subject’s skin. And when a jump scare died off, there were long, uncomfortable moments of tension to maintain her elevated heart rate. A barrage of shocking scenes throughout the third act left our subject in a state of constant agitation. These increases of adrenaline caused her heart rate to climb. A jumpscare from a horrific revelation induced her peak 98bpm at 1:07. Overall, our subject maintained an average above 80bpm, nearly 20bpm above her resting heart rate.

CONCLUSION:

Fear is contagious. This memorable line from the movie is perfect to describe the effect Terrified had on our subject. She empathized with the characters and allowed herself to be drawn in to the emotional storyline. The intense creep factor had our subject cowering under her blanket. The scares could be compared to those from our current heart racing leader The Conjuring (2013) by James Wan. At times though, her focus was split between the ongoing action and the subtitles. I only wonder if her numbers would’ve been higher if she wasn’t distracted. If that were the case we could have possibly been looking at a new number one in heart racing horror.
