Triangle was originally released in the United Kingdom on October 16th , 2009 and is based in part on the story of Sisyphus, a figure in Greek mythology. We happened to stumble upon the film when it made it’s blu-ray release in the US and like many critics, we were blown away by the twists and turns. Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw wrote that Triangle is a “smart, interestingly constructed scary movie”, complimenting director Christopher Smith for “creating some real shivers”. Would the film be scary enough to invoke true fear in our subject? How would her heart react to the mysteries unfolding in this mind bending thriller?

ANALYSIS:
A dream-like quality to the film’s opening had our subject drifting through the first fifteen minutes without physiological change. Her first signs of life came at 18:00 when an atmospheric evil blew in and raised her heart rate from her resting average. At the 38:00 mark, the film established a murder mystery and the confusing puzzle slowly began to unravel. As the plot revealed itself and questions were answered, scares began to diminish. But even with our subject settling into the pacing, the film still had more jolts to offer.
CONCLUSION:
Without divulging too many of the secrets hidden in Triangle, the horrific concept presented to our subject kept her engaged. Even though the disturbing plotline wasn’t enough to hit record levels, it did keep the heart rate fluctuating. A haunting soundtrack along with a constantly twisting mystery delivered mild shocks with even more spine-tingling chills. Our subject began the film as confused as the main character but by the end she was ready to dive back in for a repeat view.
