ANALYSIS:

Before we begin the analysis, let us say that Evil Dead Rise (2023) opens with incredible gore and features one of the best title sequences, worthy of an immediate audience applause. The combination of shocks and sound effects produced a 91bpm spike within the first five minutes of the film. A break in the action to establish a few creepy characters allowed our subject’s heart rate to drop back to resting. But seismic activity triggered minor heart palpitations and a haunting atmosphere had our subject on the edge of the couch as the evil awakened.

Leah, unfamiliar with the famous ‘Tree’ sequence from the original movie, entered into the next scene blind. This caused a shocking 94bpm elevator elevation as she cringed at the terror unfolding. The anxiety and anticipation of another grotesque scene would never let our subject’s heart rate drop back to her resting average. In fact, from the 30:00 mark on, we recorded an extremely high heart rate from the roller coaster of gore that continued for another forty minutes. Our subject had no time to relax with this brutal barrage until the wildly grotesque but less terrifying finale.

Oh, and there could be no ‘grater’ scene than the one that produced our subject’s peak heart rate of 96bpm. IYKYK

Share on X The film delivers an adrenaline pumping, blood-drenched adventure even with the big city relocation.
