We were super excited to monitor the second installment of the Fear Street trilogy. Not only was the first part frightfully fun but this next film features our cousin, Ryan Simpkins, in a heart racing role. Find out how the 1978 scares compare to 1994, and if our subject, hooked up to a heart monitor, was able to withstand the evil curse of the witch.

ANALYSIS:
The opening made a spooky, seamless transition from the first film to the next. Our subject, with the original gory finale still fresh in her mind, sat on the edge of her couch anticipating the next brutal kill. Unfortunately for our scale, the movie began with a slow pace while it established a continuation of the creepy backstory. Hints of possible possession and a few quick jump scares teased our subject’s vitals but it wasn’t until 43:00 that we recorded a tremendous first spike of 82bpm. The classic yet simple kills were intense but quick and our subject came to expect the timing of the attacks. Much like the first movie it was the third act that caused the most heart racing moments with our subject. Chases combined with bloody slayings tugged at her heart strings as we recorded several peaks above 75bpm. In fact, a surprising finale built suspense causing a major heart rate climb just before the end credits.
CONCLUSION:
Part two of the Fear Street trilogy delivers seventies sex, drugs and slasher scares to satisfy the classic horror fan. Share on X The story continues to build a world that pays homage to the campy killers we grew up with. Many scenes look as if they were pulled straight from a VHS copy of Friday the 13th. Even though the gruesome murders were too fast to sustain high levels of fear, it was the backstory of this film that haunted our subject and had her sleeping with the lights on after viewing. After a successful month of monitoring this frightening witch tale, we may need to consider changing the spelling of our name to FierScale.
