Our July monitoring concluded with the Fear Street finale set in 1666. We expected more chilling backstory and answers to our burning questions, but did this last installment of the Netflix trilogy surpass the scares of its evil predecessors?

Walking HR: 80-85bpm
ANALYSIS:
A tale of forbidden love produced a slow climb out of our subject’s resting heart rate levels (63-65bpm). But the intriguing storyline and creepy atmosphere failed to get her heart racing. Our subject was more worried about the main character in peril than she was about the potential frightening images coming her way. An uncomfortable incident at 23:00 visibly shook her, testing her fear of animals in danger. This led to a visually terrifying scene at 30:00 that caused a fluctuation to 73bpm. Minor jump scares paved the way to an explosive peak of 81bpm when suspense and gore combined for a bloody shock. The tone of the film changed dramatically during the second half at 1:05. Our subject was already familiar with the cast of characters and slashers so she didn’t feel the need to hide her face once. There were entertaining heart racing moments and quick jolts but nothing she couldn’t handle. The satisfying finale raised her pulse and in true slasher fashion, a quick jump scare at the end revealed more possible Fear Street films in the future.
CONCLUSION:
The Fear Street finale is a slow, fiery burn with a heartbreaking first half and an exciting conclusion but delivered the least amount of scares in the trilogy. Share on X Each Netflix film showcased a different generation of horror filmmaking with varying levels of fear. This emotional witch hunt developed under a haunting soundtrack and captured our subject’s heart but lost terrifying scares along the way. It’s also possible that monitoring a trilogy back to back to back may have desensitized our subject. She wasn’t expecting the shocks and gores during the first film but she slowly became acclimated to the continuing horrors. We loved this trilogy and even if this last installment didn’t ignite our heart monitor, there were enough calories burned to earn a place hanging among our favorite frights this summer.
