Orphan First Kill

ANALYSIS:

A suspenseful opening established the orphan as a smart, ruthless and extremely disturbed young…older lady. With a film called First Kill, our subject was half expecting well, one kill. But after only twenty minutes the main character already had two under her belt. Unfortunately, we recorded only a brief leap in our subject’s heart rate before the film’s tension died out. An ominous psycho-esque score attempted to build moments of suspense but the film played out more as a family drama than a horror for the next thirty minutes. At 54:00, the mother of all twists changed the original story and the tone of the film while delivering an 80bpm spike. A killer conclusion brought on an 82bpm peak at 1:23 but the fake fiery effects prevented our subject from getting swept away by the end.

CONCLUSION:

Orphan: First Kill (2022) is a cat and mouse thriller which delivers mild suspense, dark comedy and a bloody finale. Share on X The slow paced crime drama had our subject intrigued but failed to produce high levels of anxiety. Instead, the film delivered an unexpected campiness with impressive performances that made for a fun watch.
